Bzz Bzz Bzz

Buzz

Here it is. No, it's not Buzz Aldrin. This is my dear friend Jen McMayonaise, drawing her Illustration Friday Buzz entry at a local independent hipster coffee shop called Starbucks. Very authentic 1950's feel. It was founded in 1949 in Norwood, MA.

I was pretty surprised to see that Penelope picked my word again this week (see: Clear), especially because my B.F.F.L.I.R.L. Liz, just had her work up as Pick of the Week.

I dont even know when or why I entered "Buzz." My only answer is: I must have been pretty buzzed at the time. I usually am when I start submitting words. I promise not to enter anymore bizarre inillustratable topics. But I do get frustrated after a few weeks of stuff like Peace and Phoenix. Barf City, U.S.A.

And I'd like to thank the Starbucks guy for all the free stuff.

Love the drawing, such nice lines. Plus I got a lovely vivid visual from what you wrote.

Great choice of topic, btw!

It's cool you chose "buzz", it's a tricky one, but I agree much more interesting than "peace"

I almost can hear her buzzing :)

1) Everything is illustratable.
2) "Starbucks" should be the next IF word.
3) This is a very sensitive drawing.
4) I use Winsor & Newton watercolours.
5) Check your monitor calibration because the colours aren't particularly intense.
6) Remember that watercolour becomes a lot lighter when dry.
7) It's easier to get intense colour out of watercolour tubes as opposed to pans of dry colour.

She almost has a beehive too!

Tell you what, I won't be drwing anything too kind if "Starbucks" was the next IF topic.

Hey, I loved both of your words! This is a great drawing. You've captured her totally "in the zone" of drawing. And I love visiting Mass thru you! Your latest bio cracks me up because I have a friend who moved from Marshfield, MA to FLA several years ago because she could afford to buy a house there, but she never goes anywhere. I asked her why and she said "Because Florida's out there!" I thought that was a perfect reason to stay in too!

Great drawing and funny writing...I hear rumor that next weeks word is something painful like 'happy' and the week after is 'smile'...that'll really get some ganders up...

Holy crumb, I was frustrated by Phoenix, too.

That's pretty intense hair.

And, you know, a pretty kickass drawing.

Hey, thanks for putting me on your links. I feel honored that you like my stuff like that. I like the mood to your drawing here.

You would think that I would have jumped on buzz, what with loving bees and all but it feels like everyone is going the bee route and I like to as Apple puts it, "think different". Now what to do with buzz? hmmmmmmm...

yeah peace and phoenix were totally annoying - I knew it would be something awful for christmas but 2 weeks in a row really bummed me out.

anyway i've got another martini for you - look at the home page of my non-blog site: http://billzeman.com

nice sketch. I haven't done illustration friday in forever - 2 reasons. the topics haven't really been doing anything for me, and I have no time. I like your sketch! It's really good and a different take on the topic. GOod job!

Ellis is right. everything is illustratable..

Thanx again for the topic though. I went nights without sleeping trying to come up with something original.. I hope my humour(humor) pays off.

Drawing people at cafes has got to be hard. Knowing people may be over your shoulder.. just gives me the jeebees...

Hey Jeannette, always a pleasure seeing work like this--refreshing even. Do keep posting. =)

Thanks for looking at my stuff, everyone.

Ellis is so wise.

And I'm sorry about all the drunk bumble bees. And sorry if I'm offending anyone who drew a drunk bumble bee.

I like the atmosphere in this one, it's so intense and focused. And I admire people who can draw interiors well, I can't seem to pull it off.

Hi Jeannette,

I like the pencil drawing of your friend. Does she have some nice tattoo work on her arm, or were you just waxing creative?

Thanks for the Buzz topic--after thinking about it for several days I came up with a creative solution.

Ciao,
Roberto
