And so on.

Jeannette Langmead Illustration Sketchblog Kurt Vonnegut

I found out about two hours ago that my favorite author Kurt Vonnegut has died. It is really late and I am leaving for Montreal in a few hours, but I wanted to draw his portrait right away. I have been reading Vonnegut novels since I was thirteen, beginning with The Sirens of Titan. For me it is strange that he died now because I have been going through a phase of rereading his work. And I am actually near the end of Breakfast of Champions (one of my favorites). And I had already packed Slapstick to read on my vacation. Ive always had a fantasy of hearing him speak or lecture, especially because he often taught on Cape Cod. So I'm feeling sort of sad. And tired.

Great job. He's my favorite too! I'm in the middle of reading "Slapstick" right now. "Cat's Cradle" is my favorite.

I'm so bummed.

Hi Jeannette,

Like your work, especially the comics. Will keep checking back to see more of your art -- which means you've gotta keep drawing!

why are you going to Montreal? Isn't that place just full of lumberjacks who drink maple syrup instead of water and their idea of a full meal is fries and cheese balls covered in gravy??
I hear their gays get married over there too...

Great portrait. At one time I didn't think there was anything worth reading, and then I found “Cat's Cradle.” Mr. Vonneguts books are like sweet word candy.

Great drawing Jeannette... and it's good to have a favourite author. I'm sorry for your loss.

Great tribute. He's always the first poster I notice at Barnes and Noble.

My friends and I had a drunken bbq last night and gather 'round the grill and read our favorite Vonegurt quotes. Love this portrait, and I love your work.

I just came across your work & blog through Illustration Friday. I'm an "older" artist & reader of Kurt & very moved by his work in the late 60s, early 70s -- he set the stage for a lot of us who found solace in his writing as Vietnam kept killing our drafted boyfriends and brothers. The views he projected in Slaughterhouse 5 are applicable right now. I've just recently started illustrating after years as a fiber artist, so I look forward to discovering artists like yourself. Thanks.

The world is a lesser place without Kurt Vonnegut Jr. in it. The portrait is lovely. I think you caprtured his eyes; one thing that all of the people who commented on his death were his eyes. Sad. Kind.

and Jon, until you've tried Poutine, you don't know what comfort food is. Of course, just looking at Poutine can clog your arteries, but it's a less disgusting way to get obese than , say , pork rinds.
